From oil and acrylic, Irene has developed a penchant for tempera that she mixes herself. Her colors, often a saturated ultramarine and fluorescent orange, have a unique luster when used with the handmade paper which she prefer. Her paintings are about male and female, communication, relationships and experience.
Quite early in her career she found her special symbolic language, the humanized chairs – the slender female and the mighty male armchair – with her ever since. With three-dimensional montage images she has developed her design language further using self-made paper, tempera and 24 carat gold leafs.
